Support for loading a GIMP palette in the Palette Editor Panel will soon be available directly in Synfig.
Meanwhile you can use an external (Perl) script to convert GIMP palettes (.gpl) into Synfig palettes (.spal). It applies a gamma correction of 3 (best visual match after quick test&trial), that you may want to change to 2.2 or any other best suiting your screen and devices.
Download, unzip, (be sure to have Perl installed) and run it from the command line:
./gpl2spal.pl </usr/share/gimp/2.0/palettes/Named_Colors.gpl >Named_Colors.spal
In the zip are some sample results too (Tango, Pastel, and Named Colors palettes converted to spal format).
