1. make digests in your overlay directory i.e.: 

 ebuild /overlay/media-gfx/synfig-studio/synfig-studio-0.61.05.ebuild digest
 ...

2. this goes in the /etc/portage/package.use 

 media-gfx/synfig  ffmpeg freetype imagemagick libdv openexr
 media-gfx/synfig-studio fmod

3. emerge -av synfig-studio
